Bringing Home Our Cinnamon British Shorthair Kitten – Meet Elsie
People often assume that because we're breeders, bringing home a new kitten is no big deal. The truth is, it's just as exciting for us as it is for any family collecting their new furry friend.
One thing that's really important to us at Little Paws by Miles is remembering what it feels like to be the buyer. We want to experience the same excitement, anticipation and even those little nerves that our own kitten families feel when they collect one of our kittens.
For a long time we'd been researching the British Shorthair breed. We loved their calm, affectionate nature, their chunky teddy bear looks and, of course, the amazing range of colours. After lots of research, we found a fantastic breeder and knew we'd found the right kitten.
Last weekend, the countdown was finally over and we collected our beautiful cinnamon British Shorthair kitten, Elsie.
Collection Day
When we arrived, Elsie was exactly what you'd hope to see. She was charging around with her brothers and sisters, climbing over everything and having the best time. Seeing her so confident and happy with her littermates instantly reassured us that she'd had a wonderful start in life.
Then came the journey home.
To our surprise, she settled almost straight away, curled up in her carrier and slept for nearly the whole two-hour drive. We couldn't have asked for a better first trip home.
Settling Into Her New Home
Once we got home, Elsie went straight into our kitten room. It's a room we use for all our kittens, and it's the perfect place for a new arrival to settle while they get used to the smells and sounds of the house. We always recommend this to our own kitten families, so it was nice to be taking our own advice.
We live quite close to the airport, so there's often the sound of planes overhead, especially when the windows are open. Thankfully, none of it has bothered Elsie in the slightest. She's taken everything in her stride and has settled so much quicker than we ever expected.
We honestly can't stop looking at her. Her warm cinnamon coat and beautiful brown eyes are so different from our other cats, and she's already bringing something completely new to our home.
Why We Chose a British Shorthair
People often ask why we don't just breed one breed like many breeders do.
The simple answer is because we genuinely love them all.
Our Ragdolls, Maine Coons and now British Shorthairs each have their own personalities and qualities. We enjoy learning about each breed and giving them the very best life we can. For us, having three wonderful breeds is what makes Little Paws by Miles a little different.
Seeing Things From a Buyer's Perspective
Bringing Elsie home has reminded us exactly how our own kitten families feel when they collect one of our kittens. That excitement, the smiles all the way home and the joy of watching them settle into their new life is something really special.
We think it's important that, as breeders, we never forget what that experience feels like. It helps us understand our own families even better and reminds us why we put so much time, care and love into raising every kitten.
So, welcome to the Little Paws by Miles family, Elsie.
